रविवार की रात, अहमदाबाद के नरेंद्र मोदी स्टेडियम में 1 लाख से अधिक की भीड़ के सामने, गुजरात टाइटंस ने अपने पहले आईपीएल सीज़न में, राजस्थान रॉयल्स को हराकर अपना पहला खिताब जीता।
राजस्थान जो अपने दूसरे फाइनल में ही था, उन्होंने भी 2008 में अपने डेब्यू सीज़न में अपना पहला आईपीएल ख़िताब जीता था।
हार्दिक पांड्या ने अपनी टीम की तरह ही सभी को चौंकाते हुए सीजन में नंबर 3 और 4 पर बल्लेबाजी की जिम्मेदारी लेकर एक गेंदबाज के रूप में मजबूत और फिटर वापसी करके कप्तानी करते हुए सभी को चौंका दिया है।
उन्होंने आज रात आगे से आकर पहले गेंद और फिर बल्ले से नेतृत्व किया,इस तरह उन्हे प्लेयर ऑफ द मैच का पुरस्कार भी जीता।

राजस्थान के कप्तान संजू सैमसन ने टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने यशस्वी जायसवाल (16 गेंदों पर 22 रन) शीघ्र ही खो दिया, लेकिन जोस बटलर और संजू सैमसन दोनों ने पारी को संभाला और 8 ओवर में 59/1 के स्कोर तक ले गए।
हार्दिक पंड्या के खुद के परिचय से खेल का रुख बदल दिया जैसा की पहले उन्होंने सैमसन को आउट किया फिर बड़ी मछली, बटलर (जोकि ऑरेंज कैप विजेता भी है) को क्लासिकल बैक ऑफ लेंथ डिलीवरी के साथ आउट साहा के हाथो द्वारा कराया।
पंड्या ने अपना स्पैल जारी रखा और आरआर के फिनिशर शिमरोन हेटमेयर को भी आउट किया, जिन्होंने गेंदबाज को कैच बैक किया। पांड्या ने अपना 4 ओवर का स्पैल 3/17 के शानदार आंकड़े के साथ समाप्त किया।
साई किशोर ने दो देर से विकेट लिए, एक के बाद एक राशिद खान, यश दयाल और मोहम्मद शमी के विकेटों ने आरआर को 130 पर रोक दिया।
साहा और मैथ्यू वेड को 23 के कुल स्कोर पर वापस लौटने के कारणवश गुजरात का शुरुआत ठीक से नहीं हुआ, पांड्या ने शुभमन गिल के साथ हाथ मिलाया और बिना किसी अनावश्यक या गलत जोखिम के पंड्या के साथ 53 गेंदों पर 63 रनों की साझेदारी की।
