उथप्पा देश के लिए खेलने वाले सबसे तकनीकी रूप से मजबूत बल्लेबाजों में से एक थे। वह 2007 टी 20 विश्व कप विजेता टीम का भी हिस्सा थे और टूर्नामेंट में कई महत्वपूर्ण पारियां खेली थीं।
समाचार की घोषणा करते हुए, उथप्पा ने बीसीसीआई, उनके राज्य बोर्ड और उनकी पूर्व आईपीएल फ्रेंचाइजी का आभार व्यक्त किया।
